An interesting CVS Trip

I have a nice little story to tell regarding my CVS saga, but I’m going to post my trip first.  This way you don’t have to read it if you are sick of hearing about it:)

2 Johnson & Johnson Red Cross first aid bandages $4.99 each.
I used a coupon for $3.00 off 2 (from a smart source machine at a store). Then I got back $6.00 in ECBs.
$9.98-$3.00=$6.98-$6.00 (ECBs) = $0.49 each.

Revlon Deal
Color stay 12 hour eyeshadow $6.99 + Creme eyeshadow $6.49 + Fabulash mascara $6.99. I used 3 coupons that were for $2.00 off. Then earned $10.00 in ECBs.
$6.99 + $6.99 + $6.49 = $20.47 – $6.00 = $14.47 – $10.00 (ECBs) = $4.47.

CVS Pantiliners $0.99. I used a coupon for $.99 that printed at CVS when I scanned my card. Total was free.

Kotex $1.49. I used a coupon for $2.00 that printed at CVS when I scanned my card. This was a money maker of $0.51.

Aquafresh on clearance for $2.77. I used a coupon for $2.00 that printed at CVS when I scanned my card.
Final price was $0.77.

Valentines were 75% off and came to $0.75.

My out of pocket was $2.56.

So I was all set to return to the scene of the attack my usual CVS to do today’s shopping trip (to read about said attack encounter go here and here).  I’ll admit I wasn’t in the best frame of mind and was hoping the nasty manager would be there so I could make some snide comments.  That was until one of my bloggy friends (thanks Kim!) left a comment and reminded me that I am better then that.  So I went a little out of my way to a CVS I don’t usually go to.

Now, you know that saying when God closes a door somewhere he opens a window?  Well in this case he opened big double doors.   I didn’t want to just do my shopping, if I am going to switch stores I want to start a relationship.  So when I couldn’t find something the extremely friendly cashier actually came up to me and asked if she could help me.  I started a little conversation to test the waters.

She was really nice and actually went to her manager to make sure the item was on order.  Then the very sweet manager came over and told me when the truck would be there so I could be sure to catch the item in stock.  While the girls at the other store are friendly, it took a long time to develop a relationship with them so I started to think that things were looking up.

When I was done with my shopping, I approached the counter and explained my situation to the really sweet cashier.  I told her that I was a blogger and used coupons to get the deals and post them.  I also started to tell her how I was a little leery because a manager at a different CVS was really mean to me.  She instantly asked if it was Tony at such and such CVS (which it was) and called over her manager.  Then I got the dirt.

Tony is not very popular and apparently has a history of treating people bad.  He is very good friends with the district manager Ray,  so it will take a lot to get him in trouble.  He is from a different country and has some different views on women and how they should act.  I also had confirmation that he treats the people that work under him pretty badly. The nice manager at my new store told me that if there is any type of incident at a CVS store the manager calls their district manager to give them the heads up on the crazy person  (that would have been me) that is going to call and complain.

This gives them an easy out when the complaint comes in.  There is also a long process and a person must be written up numerous times, so basically if you have a complaint you need to report it in the hopes that other people will do or have done the same thing.  They won’t really do anything unless there are numerous complaints.

So I am not going to waste any more time worrying or complaining about how I was treated.  I’m not the first person that has gone through this and unfortunately won’t be the last.  I now have a nice new place to go, where the manager actually welcomed me and told me how they love regulars like me.  As I left I also realized that there is faster way for me to go get the kids from school when I leave from that store, it’s not out of my way at all.  It really is a win-win situation.

Liz, thank you for sharing your praise of how God worked this out for you! He really rolled out the red carpet to show you that He is actively working everything out for our good and His glory. God loves you and Tony equally (even if we all wanted to pinch his little head off for you). :)

I just had a coupon incident at the Arby’s closest to my home today, and I love that I get to pick where I spend my money (or not).

    Have a great day, girl!

That’s great that you guys a several stores to choose from. That manager needs to go especially with his history! How frustrating! I’m glad you found a store with great people though that makes life so much easier!!!

It appears I may have been insensitive to others who literally do not have an option of where to shop, and I’m sorry. I’m thinking of my dear friend in Iowa who has no options in her small town, and she would have to drive an hour and a half to get to a CVS, Walgreens, WalMart, etc. I live in a very populated area with a bounty of stores within 5 minutes of our home. I take it for granted that everyone has the right to pick. I have a Publix and a Walgreens who appear upset when/if I walk through their doors with my coupon binder, so I understand the sick feeling of being questioned and looked down upon. I do agree that Liz’s CVS manager needs to be reevaluated, and I hope CVS’ upper management will make some tough decisions at that store.

You’ve convinced me that I should switch from my low traffic, fully stocked CVS to another in town that is super busy but has never hassled me about coupons.

(I first got publicly berated by a cashier for not circling the expiration date on a coupon I was using for my Mother when I was ten. It is always a terribly ugly experience to be the object of an unhappy person’s venom.)
