BJ’s Wholesale Club

I’m not telling how much I spent at BJ’s today. I just about passed out when I saw the total and even though I’ve double and triple checked the numbers and know they are right, I still don’t believe it. Fortunately I got some very, very good deals that will last me for a long time and I wanted to share a few of them with you. The sale is good through tomorrow so you still have time to get them.
The best deal by far was the turkey and chicken, what they have on sale will vary by store and go fast. They always have the chicken on sale after Thanksgiving, the turkey was just a bonus. The Perdue split chicken breast came 12 in a pack (wrapped separately in packs of two which is super convenient). The original price was almost $20.00 and was marked down to around $7.00! I split another pack with my mom as well. The 12 lb Turkey was marked down to $4.63 so I couldn’t pass that up either. If I had room in my freezer I would have stocked up for 6 months!
As I’ve mentioned in previous posts, BJ’s brand batteries are the best deal around here. The batteries last a long time and I’m very happy with them. The sale automatically takes $3.00 off at the register, so I got a 12 pack of 9volt and three packs of AA batteries (48 in a pack) for $6.99 each and a 32 pack of AAA for $3.99. We go through a lot of batteries, but these will last us a good year, maybe more.
I also got enough toilet paper and paper towels to last a long time. I really like buying these kind of items in bulk when the price is great. It’s one less thing to worry about. Plus here in South Florida the price of paper goods always goes up when the snowbirds come down. This will easily get us through to the spring when things get back to normal and we get sales again. The Charmin was $10.99 for a 36 pack and the Basic Towels were $10.99 for 12 big rolls (18 regular size).
The 3 phone answering machine combo is a Christmas gift for my parents and it was on sale for $44.99. I know there were some better deals out there yesterday, but it’s a small price to pay for shopping today with no crowds. The mozzarella sticks are a treat the kids love and they were $5.99 for the huge pack. For our family of five I cook 1/2 a pack for each occasion so they will last a while.
The moral of this shopping spree is that I won’t be shopping again any time soon. Thank goodness my pantry and freezer are pretty well stocked. I have no grocery budget for the next two weeks so I can catch up!

I don’t allow myself buyer’s remorse at Sam’s Club, where we do our bulk buying. We go once each pay period for staples we’ll be out of soon. Then I prioritize and add in extras until I reach that eye-popping amount the budget can take for that pay period. I use the website to double check prices, availability, new items, and seasonal items too. I’ve regretted very few bulk purchases, even if the cost is spread out over 6 months of use. Often the value is so much higher than supermarket brands that it’s a treat to use restaurant quality spices, onion rings, wax paper, etc.
