Black Friday 2009

I am a little overwhelmed this year and Black Friday has just snuck up on me. But I wanted to give you some reminder tips to survive the biggest shopping day of the year. If you click on the banner it will take you to A Full Cup’s Black Friday thread, a must read for anyone heading to the stores Friday. As I’ve mentioned before there are lots of great shopping deal ideas that you may not have noticed or thought to do.
It’s almost impossible to get a good nights sleep before hand, so try to be prepared in a few other ways. If you don’t have time to eat, be sure to pack a snack and bottle of water. You can leave it in the car and snack between stores. It’s bad enough to fight the crowds, to do so hungry and/or dehydrated is just a bad idea all around.
Make a list and stick to it. It is so easy to get caught up in shopping fever and buy lots of stuff you don’t need. It is also easy to forget who you need to buy for and miss out on shopping opportunities. You should write down who you are shopping for, what you want to get them and how much you want to spend. You can always return things after the shopping buzz wears off, but can rarely go back and get something you missed.
Know your prices. Stores pay lots of money to advertise their sales in the best way and that includes how they word their ads, many times to make the deals sound better then they really are. A classic example of this is the buy one get one half off sale. Sounds good when you first hear it, but on closer examination it’s just 25% off. If you buy two items that are each ten dollars here is how it would play out ~ you pay $10.00 for the first item and you get the second for $5.00, a total of $15.00 instead of $20.00. While this can be a good deal, 25% off is not that much on some things, you need to know your items and prices.
Being well prepared for Black Friday will make you r life a lot easier. Even though it’s a crazy day, there is no better way to start off the holiday season. When you get home, exhausted and with loads of bags, nothing beats the feeling of how much you’ve accomplished and (more importantly to us savvy shoppers) how much money you saved.
