CVS Coupons
Posted on | January 24, 2009 | 2 Comments
I get quite a few e-mails asking me why I don’t use the $3.00 off $10.00 CVS coupons (and other similar ones) that are available from time to time to print out. The truth is, I don’t use them because I don’t feel like I’m entitled to. Don’t get me wrong, I love to save money and use coupons, but I don’t want to use coupons that I’m not supposed to use.
I have a confession to make. There was a coupon from a newspaper that expired last week. I did not receive the actual paper, you could access the coupon online and I did print one out and use it. It went through fine and there were no issues, except my own.
I feel guilty that I used it, like I’ve done something wrong. It’s been eating away at me and that is enough for me to know that my personal choice will be to not use those kinds of coupons again. I have had many conversations on the ethics of using coupons with some of my readers (especially my Kims!) and it is definitely a personal choice.
I don’t want to get preachy and tell you it is wrong to use these coupons, it is a choice that everyone needs to make for themselves. These coupons are out there and they are being accepted. I am quite sure that CVS is aware of many of the sites out there that are dedicated to getting good deals at CVS. They also see the coupon links that are posted, and could end the coupons if they desired. But they don’t, leaving the decision of whether or not to use them up to the individual.
I will be talking to the managers and cashiers at my CVS about this as soon as I get a chance. I’d like to know their take on the situation and get their opinions. It may change my position on how I feel about using them.

I just wrote a long post on the subject of ethics in couponing, if you’re interested. It seems that a lot of people are starting to think about this issue.
