Infant Formula Information

I want to pass on some information about baby formula. Whether you breast feed or not is entirely up to you and I am in no way comparing formula to breast milk. But if you feed your baby formula this is important information that you should know.
PBM Products is the company that makes baby formula for Walmart, Sam’s Club, Target, Kroger and Walgreens. They recently sued Mead Johnson (the makers of many products, including Enfamil) and won a $13.5 million dollar false advertising jury verdict against them. This is the third successful suit PBM Products has won against their rival baby formula maker. Mead Johnson was found to have falsely claimed that PBM’s store brand products were not as good as Enfamil. They are also banned from using advertising to suggest that feeding infants anything but Enfamil will result in reduced vision and brain development.
All infant formula sold in the U.S. must meet the same basic nutrient requirements specified by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. If you prefer store brand I would suggest you follow Consumer Reports advice and buy the powdered formula in the largest size you can find, as that will usually give you the most for your money (and I’m all about the frugal).
Thanks to my sources brandweek and bnet, if you want more information you can read the full articles here and here.
