Hi Michelle,
I've found that even though Walmart has specific policies, it really depends on who your cashier is. The type of coupon you have is important too. If it is directly from the manufacturer. or cut out of the paper, they should accept it. While some cashiers may push it through at the amount stated on the coupon, it is more likely that they will adjust it down to the sale price of the item and make it free. Unfortunately, if it is a coupon printed from the internet they probably won't take it. They do have a policy of not accepting any Internet coupons for free items (most managers won't accept Internet coupons that make items free either). Hope this helps.
Have a great day,
Liz

Liz, thank you for digging into this subject with such gusto!

I'm thinking I may have trouble with printable coupons because the bar codes don't print clearly enough to scan.

You're right about shopping with cashiers you know and who know you. (And I wondering if I'm brave enough to pull a company's written coupon policy out of my purse the next time I hit a brick wall at the checkout counter.)
