Target Holiday Returns

Posted on | December 31, 2008 | 1 Comment

A while back one of my readers pointed out Target’s return policy on holiday merchandise. It states that you will only be refunded the amount that the item is currently on clearance for. For instance, if you return a Christmas item that you bought at 50% off and the item is currently on clearance for 75% off you will only be refunded the 75% off price.

I have never had a problem with returning, but I was a little concerned when I saw the sign appear at my Target.  I spoke to the lady that is charge of returns at my store and she assured me that if you have your receipt you will get your purchase price back.   She said the sign was there for people trying to return without a receipt.  If items go on sale at 90% that I have purchased at 75% I can buy the 90% off items then go and return the items I bought at 75% and get my full purchase price back, as long as I have the receipt.

Target will not do price adjustments on clearance items so you must find it and buy it at the cheaper price. So if you bought holiday items at 50% and find the same things (or better) at 75% off, buy what you want then return the more expensive items. It will be slim pickings on some items once the holiday merchandise hits 90%, but I’ll keep my receipt handy just in case.

You should be able to get the purchase price with a receipt lookup if you used a debit/credit card.
