This is a great week to shop at Walgreen’s for freebies. I started out with no Register Rewards, spent about $12.00 out of pocket and now have $16 in Register Rewards that I’m hoping to roll over tomorrow.

As usual I made a mistake when checking out and the manager had to come and fix my error. Fortunately I was at the best Wags store ever and he fixed it no problem. Now just so you don’t make the same one, my mistake was with the Toblerone. It was a perfect filler and I will give it to the kids for Valentine’s day. The insert said that the price was 2 for $2.00 then get $1.00 off with the instant coupon, making it $1.00 for 2 or $0.50 each. To me an “instant coupon” is one that automatically deducts the amount from the transaction, no coupon needed. Wrong answer. Walgreen’s NEVER has instant coupons. What they mean is that one of their in-store coupon books has a usable coupon that must be scanned to get the discount.

While you can see the coupon match-up post here, I wanted to point out a great scenario that will cost you less then $10.00 out of pocket and you will end up with lots of stuff and have left over RRs as well.

Buy 2 bottles of Advil 40-50 count for $4.49. Use two $2.00 coupons from the 1/31 Red Plum insert. This will come to $4.98 and you will get back $5.00 in RRs.
Buy 1 Scalpicin for $5.99. The printable coupon for this is no longer available *. Your total will be $5.99 plus tax. I’m paying 6.5% tax, so my total would be $6.38. Use your $5.00 RR and pay $1.38 oop. Then get back $6.00 in RRs. *If you printed the coupon from my original post use it now and get a filler like the $0.29 candy.
Buy 1 Blink Tears for for $7.99. Use the $2.00 coupon from the 1/31 RP. I bought 2 Toblerones for $1.00 (don’t forget the in-store coupon) as my filler. That came to $6.99 plus $0.07 tax. I used my $6.00 in RRs and paid $1.06 oop. You will get back $8.00 in RRs.
Buy 1 Zicam for $10.00 and one Vitamin Schtick Lip care for $1.99. That will be $11.99 then use the $3.00 coupon from the package of Zicam and your $8.00 RR. I paid $0.99 oop for this and got two RRs this time, one for $7.00 and one for $2.00.
Repeat transaction # 3 ~ Buy 1 Blink Tears for for $7.99. Use the $2.00 coupon from the 1/31 RP. Buy 2 Toblerones for $1.00 (don’t forget the in-store coupon) as a filler. That will be $6.99 plus $0.07 tax. Use the $7.00 in RRs and pay $0.06 oop. You will get back $8.00 in RRs.
Buy 1 Joint Juice for $10.00 and one filler candy for $0.29 (you need this to use 2 RR coupons). Total will be $10.29. Use your $8.00 and $2.00 RRs. Your oop will be about $0.31 and you will get back $10.00 in RRs.

If you follow these 6 steps you will have spent about $8.78 and have $10.00 in Register Rewards!

You can stop there or keep rolling your RRs, just be careful not to use a RR from the same item you are buying. One great way to keep rolling your RRs is the following:

Use your $10.00 RR to buy 1 Blink Tears ($7.99) and 1 Vitamin Schtick Lip care ($1.99) and a candy filler ($0.29). Total will be $10.29 with tax less $10.00 RR, pay $0.29 oop. Then buy 1 Joint Juice ($10.00) and candy filler ($0.29). Use your $8 and $2 RR and pay $0.31 and get back $10.00 RR. You can keep repeating this as often as you want, although you will probably have to go to different Wags to keep it going.
